Have you ever thought that when you retired you’d want to own and run an Inn? Well, MaryAnn Gunning did, after she retired from working as a nurse for 50 years in the Emergency Room in New Britain, Connecticut.
She has owned and personally run this beautiful blue Victorian Inn for the last 8 years. The Inn consists of 5 bedroom suites, each with bathrooms and fireplaces, plus a separate small carriage house in back that has been rented out for the last 11 years by the same tenant.
Chapin Park Inn (or The Edward Chapin Home) at 45 Church Street in New Hartford, CT, was built in 1871 with the finest detail. My husband and I stayed here two weeks ago in the room right off the front entrance. There were 11 foot ceilings and beautiful chestnut wood paneling in this room, which originally was the library.
Up the staircase there are the additional bedroom suites. There is also a separate staircase in the back of the house leading up to what used to be the servants quarters. This would be perfect for a Nanny if you buy it as a single family home. It also includes a walk up attic with two additional bedrooms if needed, a full unfinished basement and 2 car garage.
The Chapin Inn or this can be a single family home for a large family is conveniently located to all that enjoy fishing in the Farmington River, or who are bicycle enthusiasts (as we are), to the Farmington Heritage Trail. This is such a picturesque 22 mile off road trail along the river. Although New Hartford is a small town, you are so close to Simsbury or Avon for “mall” needs. Good restaurants and entertainment are also close by.
Under 2 hour trip to Westchester County or Boston and 35 minutes to Bradley Airport makes it an ideal location.
MaryAnn Gunning has really enjoyed her venture into owning the Inn. Her personal attention to all of her guests make you feel like you are visiting a family member. She would like to sell it to someone who will truly enjoy and value this home. She is also willing to stay on as your Inns keeper if you are buying for an investment!
MaryAnn gave me a copy of all of the specs, listing, and pictures to bring back here to Westchester County if you are interested in seeing it. If you would like to view it I am happy to refer you to the listing agent in Avon, Connecticut.
